Just like most other types of insurance, there is a variety of options in choosing a health insurance policy. You will need to consider things like the premium, deductibles, coverage options, co-pays, and the prescription drug benefits of the plans you wish to compare. Typically most health isurance plans offer coverage for:
Pregnancy and Maternity
Lab Testing and Xrays
Since the Affordable Health Care Act, insurance companies in New Mexico have categorized the plans to make it easier. Basically there are four options:
Bronze - 40% Co-Pay
Silver - 30% Co-Pay (Generally the most affordable plan for families)
Gold - 20% Co-Pay
Platinum - 10% Co-Pay
Within those categories, you will have several plans to choose from. Perhaps you have narrowed your choices down to either the Silver Plan or the Gold Plan. But, there may be 3-4 Silver Plans, the difference within those policies will be the premium price, the amount of the deductible, the amounts you will have to pay your doctor and pharmacy, and what is covered (for example, some plans do not offer coverge for pregnancy and maternity). For a complete breakdown on the plans, talk to one of our representatives who can explain each health care plan.
